NZ VISA officer in New Delhi sacked

Vinay Deobhakta’s response:

COURAGE LIKE THIS IS HUMBLING…

Although highly publicised, this article serves as a reminder of 2 courageous women that forged ahead at a time where there was little support, poor processes lacking in empathy and common sense and an unconscionable abuse of power.

For the result of their “speaking up”, to be a trail-blazing approach to improving sexual harm processes within the NZ Police speaks to these women’s unselfish and courageous acts and women in NZ now likely experience a far less damaging way of speaking up for themselves.

Not to take away from the emotional harm inflicted on Donna and Louise, and despite being threatened myself at the time for standing by them, I will always remember this time as the honour it was, for them to have placed this trust in me and allowing me the opportunity to attempt to make things “right”/bring some peace to their lives.

There are some cases that become a catalyst for change and conversation, I believe this is one of those cases and it is prudent to remember the principles behind it.

Since then, the worldwide “Me Too” movement has been openly discussed.

The Legal Profession have also been found lacking with their failure to act on reports of sexual harassment among other things in the workplace, forcing “a new way of thinking and behaviour” to be adopted as a result of an investigation into their culture.

It is in sexual harassment matters involving the workplace, that a Professional McKenzie friend can be most useful in providing an independent support system.

Bypassing the HR department of companies, can be an attractive option for employees. An HR department is at a distinct disadvantage in so far as the “fear of punishment” at work or worse, job loss is a heightened burden to carry for employees actively trying to stop “the behaviour” when they simply follow procedure by reporting the matter to “the usual chain of command”.

If this is happening to you, please feel confident in our ability to achieve the best results for your set of circumstances and that we will remain discreet and independent when you engage our services.
